“I was nervous about the first visit. Marisela listened, explained what we would do, and never hurried me.”
FAQ
Common questions
Plain answers before you get in touch.
Do you take my insurance?
Aperture is out of network. I do not bill Medicare or Medicaid, and I cannot accept them as payment. Many PPO plans reimburse part of out-of-network care, and your plan decides what it pays. I check your benefits before the first session.
What is a superbill and how do I use it?
A superbill is an itemized monthly receipt that a plan may reimburse in part when you send it in. It carries a diagnosis code that your insurer will see. Your plan decides, and reimbursement is not guaranteed.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of the cost of your care before it starts. If a bill comes in well above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract. I give you one in writing, and the how fees work page has the details.
How much does it cost and how do fees work?
Your fee for a session is given in writing before you start, and this site shows no price list. The how fees work page explains insurance, receipts and estimates.
Can I use an HSA or FSA card?
Yes. Health savings and flexible spending cards work for sessions. Ask me if you need a receipt for your plan administrator.
What happens in the first session?
We talk about what is going on, what you have already tried and what you want to change. It is not a test. I explain how exposure and response prevention (ERP) or cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) would work for you, and you decide whether to go on.
How often will we meet, and for how long?
A session is 50 minutes. Your clinician sets the pace with you: we agree how often to meet and how to tell whether the work is useful. I cannot say in advance how many sessions you will need.
Are you licensed where I live?
I am licensed in Oregon. Video sessions are for clients located in Oregon at the time of the visit. If you live elsewhere, I can suggest where to look.
What should I do in a crisis?
Call or text 988, any time, or call 911 in an emergency. This site and my voicemail are not monitored around the clock, so please do not use them in a crisis.
What is confidential, and what are the limits?
What you share stays between us, with a few legal exceptions: a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, and abuse of a child or an older adult. I explain these limits in the first session. I keep your records private and share them only as the law allows.
Can you see my teen, and how does consent work?
Yes, I see teens with OCD and anxiety. On the first call I explain how Oregon's consent rules work for your teen's age, and what parents are told and when. I meet with parents too, because their part in practice matters.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give a full day's notice to cancel or change a session. If you need to cancel late, tell me what happened and we will talk about it.
Client notes
What the room feels like
- Addison L.
“The office is quiet and the chair is comfortable. I stopped dreading the walk from the bus after the second visit.”
Hari B.“She tells me what we are going to do before we do it, and I can say no to any step. That made showing up easier.”
